A Few of my Favorite Things ...

have to be the new Irregular Choice pumps my husband picked up for me as an early birthday present. I believe the design was inspired by 17 year old, Jo Theobald, who won their "Design A Pair of IC Competition".
Here they are!

Aren't them yummy? Look for your pair at Schuh.

Worth Mentioning

Miss Manhattan Mamba was mentioned in Artfire's article titled "How to Own Burlesque Style"!
Go on, check out the waves I've made ... more like ripples, haha.

Along with the author's recommendation, I would also like to suggest, dear readers, that you check out Gypsy Lady Hats on artfire. These 3 ladies, together, have over 100 years experience in design (costume, millinery, toy) and have been making stunning top hats for over 35 years!

One Lump or Two?

What better way to wash down a lovely confection, such as the one I reviewed yesterday, than to sip an invigorating cuppa with the ladies of Time for Tease. Time for Tease is a London-based group of performance artists and waitresses, headed by Zoe Fletcher, whom organizes & hosts burlesque cabaret whilst you have your afternoon spot o' tea.

Afternoon tea always evokes memories of when I sat in the Walnut Room (Marshall Field's, Chicago) with my grandmother, a staunch believer in prim and proper etiquette (elbows off the table and walk with one foot in front of the other nonsense). Well, you needn't be the "cream in the tea" to enjoy this gussied-up version of a British pastime, just dress up and pretend; ticket prices, per afternoon sitting, cost approx £35.

How Much is that Brassiere in the Window?

Today I was just meandering in and out of etsy stores that catered to burlesque fashion and, oh my, did I find myself drooling over something delicious. Like a mouthwatering meringue topped with clotted cream and yummy jam, vintageopulance's revamped lingerie is as sumptuous and decadent.

If my wallet I weren't on a diet* I would scarf one or two of these beauties down. In the meantime I'll continue window shopping, pressing my nose up against the glass. Hopefully the shop owner won't shoo me away before I can give her kudos.

*yes, I know meringue has no fat ... but sugar and egg white can't be all that good for your blood glucose level.

In the Orchard.

Hey y'all!

I'm ready to start on a new tassel design this up and coming weekend (thank the stars for bank holidays!). They're gonna be ripe for the picking within a matter of ... days ... weeks ... you can never tell when something will ripen really. So, get ready with your baskets and meet me in the orchard of etsy & artfire until then.

Artfire Store is Fired Up!!!

Be sure to visit my Artfire store so I can keep the flames stoked.

Etsy Store is a Go!

I've just listed a few of my goods on Etsy; all my other other stores will follow suit shortly.

When I was snooping around, trying to locate local (northwest UK) burlesque performers, I discovered ShakeItDoll.com.

ShakeitDoll's intent is “Putting the URL in Burlesque” and is run solely by Beatrix Von Bourbon, strip tease performer and pin-up beauty extraordinaire. Her site lists upcoming burlesque events, hailing from all corners of the UK.

And while you're saving the dates for some of these events on your calendar why don't you take a gander at the lady herself a capite ad calcem at vonbourbon.com.

Rescheduling Grand Opening.

Yesterday was a classic case of putting too many eggs in one basket. As you readers know, my grand opening was to occur yesterday, but if you click on the links below ... my stores won't be open ... not until next Tuesday.
Lil' Richard needs some one-on-one attention, just for this week. I'll start the discount next Tuesday until next.
Sorry that my personal life got in the way of progress. Hang tight.

The day the tassels twirled.

There are just a few more loose ends to tie before opening, (which is tomorrow, AH!). I've decided to open a little later in the evening because I have to drive all the way out to Newcastle to pick up my adopted ferret son, Lil' Richard ... he's got a pencil-thin mustache on his back and he sings Lucille in ferret talk. He's my mustached mustela. he-he.

Anyway, if you're reading this, please check out my store.

You'll be rewarded ... 15% off your entire purchase, (before postage), from the 5th of April through the 12th of April. All you have to do is send me a message, on anyone of my stores, and tell me what name I chose for my ferret.

I hope to see you on opening day!

It's due on April 5th...

The birth of my store, Miss Manhattan Mamba!

I'm going to answer a few questions about my business and myself. So here we go!

Where are you located?
Runcorn U.K. as of Sept. 2008. I'm a migrant from Connecticut, U.S.A.

What are you selling?
Hand-made bespoke burlesque accouterments, which are, but not limited to nipple pasties, hats, hair ornaments, etc.

What's the idea behind the name?
Miss Manhattan Mamba was an alias I created years ago for myself. I was caught up in all the hype focused on the burlesque culture at the time and thought I would give it I try. So, I searched for burlesque classes near my hometown and ended up driving all the way to NYC for Red Hots Burlesque SCHOOL OF SHIMMY.

BTW, School of Shimmy is run by Dottie Lux ... and she is a fantastic instructor!
The class took up the best of two hours and ended with the pupils displaying the practiced techniques. Most of us were apprehensive, including myself. To make a long story a lil' bit shorter ... I realized I had stage fright that I couldn't shake (even with a shimmy). My dream ended up retiring that evening. However, I adopted the alias as a business name.

Where do you look for inspiration when working on a piece?
Vintage clothing, especially accessories such as hats and costume jewelry, vintage ephemera, particular art movements (art nouveau & deco), tattoo flash, Japanese culture ... the list goes on and on.

Where are you selling your items?
You can check me out on:
